Creating a healthy human startS with preconception preparation

Creating a healthy human begins with preconception preparation and care.

Let that sink in.

Now, allow me to deconstruct the above statement a little further:

  • The lifestyle individuals lead plays a fundamental role in the overall health and well-being of their future offspring.

  • The lifestyle that your parents and even your grandparents led, before you entered the world, played a fundamental role in your overall health and well-being.

So what does this all mean?

Simple, we need to equip ourselves with the knowledge that when attempting to conceive, the following play a fundamental role in the creation of a healthy human:

  • Nutrition

  • Movement

  • Mindfulness

  • Exposure to chemicals

And before you think it (or even say it as others have to me), “not true - I know many people who make poor lifestyle choices that conceive easily.” This post isn’t necessarily about conception (even though the above are fundamental for conception to take place).

Conception might have been easy for individuals who make poor lifestyle choices, and the fact that they were able to conceive is wonderful; however, what is not so wonderful is the possibility that the child may develop health issues later in life due to the parents' poor lifestyle choices.

Ponder on this:

How many parents do you know with a minor and even major pre-existing condition(s) who then go on to conceive, and their children are born with minor or major health complications?

Emerging research highlights that an imbalanceD bacterial ecosystem within the GI tract during the preconception phase will lead to a toxic load on the baby, and this can manifest as:

  • OCD

  • Ulcers

  • Allergies

  • Headaches

  • Eye Poking

  • Aggression

  • Bedwetting

  • Hyperactivity

  • Stomach aches

  • Frequent strep

  • Sinus infections

  • Yeast infections

  • Frequent gas/colic

  • Learning difficulties

  • Emotional reactivity

  • Eczema, hives & rash

  • Bowel or urinary issues

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Constipation or diarrhoea

  • Asthma, cough & sinus infections

  • Behavioural changes after certain foods

  • Bone marrow issues from the lack of collagen

Unfortunately, babies and children face a tremendous onslaught of toxicity from the moment the sperm is released to fertilise the egg. Additionally, they are exposed to chemicals early on in the womb and throughout their early lives through water, air, food, medication, and vaccines.

While the health of a future child relies on the well-being of both parents involved in its conception, it equally depends on the mother's nourishment throughout her pregnancy.

The baby and the mother share the same microbiota, the maternal microbiota. Therefore, the mother needs to:

  1. Expose herself to a whole-foods/ organic lifestyle that nourishes her microbiome

  2. Prevent significant stress by engaging in mindfulness

  3. Moving regularly and avoiding a sedentary lifestyle

Ensuring the above takes place will mean that lifestyle, microbial and dietary antigens will not pass through the newborn’s gut barrier through the womb/breastmilk. Therefore, this won't trigger an immune activation and pro-inflammatory response.

Functional foods, exercise, gut healing, and detox protocols can help restore your internal ecosystem, enabling a child to be born with a balanced microbiota. These protocols should start well before individuals contemplate conceiving.

So, when should you start preparing your body for conception?

Information on this varies greatly from conventional health organisations, with medical practitioners like The Pregnancy Baby Birth Organisation by the Australian Government suggesting up to 6 months. However, leading nutritional experts such as Sally Fallon Morell, best known as the author of "Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats," and Dr. Campbell McBride, best known as the author of "Gut and Physiology Syndrome," who holds a degree in Medicine and postgraduate degrees in both Neurology and Human Nutrition, recommend up to two years.

I will end with this simple statement:

Both partners need to understand that their lifestyle choices carry biological implications that go beyond themselves, impacting their children, grandchildren, and perhaps generations to come.
